Editi Effiong’s The Black Book has been making the rounds since it dropped on Netflix. It’s gone from Top movies on Netflix in Nigeria to number 1 in 12 countries in less than a week. The crime thriller is number one in 12 countries including; Jamaica, Bahamas, Guadeloupe, Kenya, Martinique, Panama, Romania, Poland, Dominican Republic, Venezuela, and of course, Nigeria.
The crime thriller has gotten a lot of positive reviews since its debut on September 22, 2023. Since then, it’s been onward and upward for the hit movie.
The director of the hit movie, Editi Effiong took to X to announce the exciting news, he said, “Just got off a call with Netflix. #The Black Book is a global hit! The biggest film out of Nigeria on Netflix ever.”
He also went on to share details of the overall experience in getting all the necessary permissions from the Nigerian police and Armed Forces in September 2020. He posted on X, “I spent months writing for permission and support for certain bits of the film from the police and armed forces. I needed armored vehicles from the army, weapons, and uniforms, and guidance to ensure we directed the police and military scenes properly.”
“I’m really grateful to everyone who was part of the process, who helped make that journey smoother. The Black Book is a global hit from Nigeria. This is ours!!!”
He especially shared his gratitude to Richard Mofe-Damijo who plays a lead role in The Black Book. This news couldn’t have come at a better time for the director and everyone who played a part in the making of the film, it’s also a big win for Nigeria as a whole.
