There was a time where the era of TV shows thrived, there was literally every show under the sun for every type of viewer. From Desperate Housewives, The Vampire Diaries, Pretty Little Liars, Friends – just to name a few. There's been a steady increase in the number of new TV shows coming out this year, so just in case you're spoilt for choice or dealing with endless scrolling with no binge worthy TV show in sight, we've got you covered. 

Binge watching these days isn’t as exciting with cancellations happening left, right, and center, so it's hard to find the right show, which is why we've come up with a list of some exciting TV series you could try out, with these shows, you could step into a whole new era of binge watching.

Shogun

Shogun
Shogun is a new kid on the TV block but it’s already made some pretty big waves among fans. This TV drama created by Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks is based on a historical novel written by James Clavell. The enthralling drama is set in the 1600s and has had fans talking ever since its premiere, the miniseries is inspired by true historical events, and it follows the lives of John Blackthorne, Lord Toranaga and Lady Mariko.

Shogun is the kind of drama you get hooked on from the very start, which is why it's received a lot of positive reviews from critics and fans all over the world. This fan favorite series is making the rounds for its brilliant writing and acting. It stars Hiroyuki Sanada, Cosmo Jarvis, and Anna Sawai.

Heartbreak High

Heartbreak High
If High school drama is more your speed, Heartbreak High is the one for you — think Sex Education meets Never Have I Ever, or literally a mix of all your favorite teen shows put together, with extra spice. Heartbreak High is an Australian teen TV show, a remake of the original Heartbreak High, and it brings the drama on so many different levels.

Heartbreak High season 2 just got released on Netflix, so if you’ve not joined the party just yet, this is the perfect time! Heartbreak High follows Amerie and her drama-filled group of friends and classmates as they get up to a world of trouble at school. There’s teen drama in abundance, sex maps, friendship, breakups, and most importantly, teen love stories. Heartbreak High stars Ayesha Madon, Chloe Hayden, Thomas Weatherall, James Majoos, and a whole star studded cast.

Baby Reindeer

Baby Reindeer is another miniseries based on true events, it is a drama thriller which stars Richard Gadd, a Scottish comedian who plays Donny. The series is based on the comedian’s real life experience and it tells a detailed story of how he was stalked by Martha, played by Jessica Gunning. This series is perfect if you’re looking for an exciting binge with a dark twist, there’s a lot of twisted humor and dark twists, but it is worth the watch since it is actually based on true events.

The Circle

If you’re a fan of reality TV, or if you’re not – doesn’t matter what your answer is, The Circle is the perfect reality TV to binge watch, it has everything from social strategies, catfishes, alliance, and eliminations. The Circle season 6 is out now on Netflix, so it's the perfect place to start if you’re not yet a fan, the reality series is a social experiment that sees players befriend each other, flirt with other players, catfish their way to the top, or be their real selves as they gain popularity, all in a bid to win the grand prize at the end.

Love Is Blind

While we’re on the subject of reality TV, Love is Blind is another perfect social experiment to binge on. Watch as contestants fall in love sight unseen — created by Chris Coelen and hosted by real-life celebrity couple Nick Lachey and Vanessa Lachey, Love is Blind gives single men and women the chance of  a lifetime to get to know each other on opposite sides of a wall without seeing what the other looks like. It brings up the question, is love truly blind? Can people fall in love with physical appearance out of the picture? 

The first few episodes of each season follows singles as they get to know each other in the pods, propose in the pods, and finally get ready for the big reveal, which is the best part. Then there’s the day of the weddings, after all the post pod couples have gone through their honeymoons and living together, till they decide whether or not to get married on the final day.

Ted Lasso

If you’re looking for a feel-good TV show, set your sights on Ted Lasso. It follows the life of an American football coach as he steps into a new job as the coach of an English premier league team, AFC Richmond. Ted Lasso, played by Jason Sudeikis is the epitome of positivity as he coaches a soccer team with little to no knowledge on soccer itself.

Ted Lasso is a refreshing TV show, and every character is wholesome in a way that is rare in the world of TV. There’s lots of laughter, a lot of heart, and a lot of soccer, but in the best way possible because you don’t have to be a soccer fan to enjoy the beauty that is Ted Lasso.

Fallout

Fallout
Prime Video’s Fallout is based on the video game franchise of the same name, it is also a drama that is set in a nuclear wasteland 200 years after an apocalypse, the series follows a young woman in search of her father in a whole new world after leaving her fallout shelter. The series stars Ella Purnell, Kyle MacLachlan, Aaron Moten, and other stars. The show’s brilliance is attributed to the great storytelling, the great performance, and its ability to hook the audience from start to finish.

Mr. & Mrs. Smith

Mr. & Mrs. Smith
If you loved the original Mr. & Mrs. Smith, you will be drawn to this — it is based on the 2005 film of the same name which starred Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. The series remake stars Donald Glover and Maya Erskine, they play two strangers who agree to be secret agents for a mysterious organization, the catch is, they have to pretend to be husband and wife while doing it. There’s no way you can start this and not finish it, it has a little bit of everything from mystery, action, and a little bit of romance.

The Gentlemen

Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen certainly had fans raving, especially as it stars Theo James as the lead character, a young soldier and aristocrat named Eddie who inherits the family estate after the death of his father, the big reveal comes as he soon finds out that the family estate is also part of weed empire business run by Susie Glass, played by Kaya Scodelario. The Gentlemen is a spinoff series of a 2019 film of the same name, it’s storyline is filled with so many crazy, humourous twists and turns, which is why it's an interesting watch.

Shrinking

Shrinking stars Jason Segel as a grieving therapist who decided to change his approach on therapy by being more involved in the lives of his patients. This feel-good series is basically in the same family as Ted Lasso, and it takes on a refreshing look at Jimmy’s work life and his personal life as he copes with the loss of his wife. The series stars a fan favorite cast, from the legendary Harrison Ford, Jessica Williams, Michael Urie, Lukita Maxwell, Christa Miller, Luke Tennie, and the entire star studded cast. Shrinking season 2 is well on the way, so now is the perfect time to binge the whole of season 1.
