The much-anticipated film adaptation of Children of Blood and Bone, Tomi Adeyemi’s bestselling fantasy novel, is getting even bigger! Afrobeats sensation Ayra Starr and Nollywood legend Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) are among the latest stars joining the already impressive lineup.
Joining them are rising talents Pamilerin Ayodeji, Shamz Garuba, British-Nigerian basketball player Temi Fagbenle, Zackary Momoh, Kola Bodunde, and Saniyya Sidney, adding more depth to this powerhouse ensemble.
They’ll be starring alongside Thuso Mbedu, who leads as Zélie, the brave young heroine determined to restore magic to the mythical kingdom of Orïsha. Tosin Cole plays her protective older brother Tzain, while Amandla Stenberg and Damson Idris step into the roles of Princess Amari and Prince Inan, two royals caught in the struggle for power. Chiwetel Ejiofor takes on the role of King Saran, the ruthless ruler who wiped out magic, while Academy Award winner Regina King will portray Queen Nehanda.
And if that wasn’t enough star power, the film also features Hollywood heavyweights Viola Davis, Idris Elba, Cynthia Erivo, and Lashana Lynch—a dream team of award-winning talent.
Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, Children of Blood and Bone brings to life the gripping tale of magic, oppression, and rebellion. The story follows Zélie as she discovers a way to restore the lost power of the maji. With the help of her brother and a rogue princess, she embarks on a high-stakes mission to bring magic back—only to face deadly opposition from Prince Inan, who is determined to stop her at any cost.
Filming kicks off in South Africa, with a theatrical release set for early 2027. With this stellar cast and an epic story, this adaptation is shaping up to be a cinematic event you won’t want to miss!
