Christmas in Nigeria is epic on so many levels, there’s just a lot of tradition and memories when you’re Nigerian and Nollywood isn’t taking full advantage of that.

We all love a good holiday flick, just imagine the goldmine of storytelling we’re missing out on because there’s a shortage of Nigerian themed holiday movies. We need more holiday sprinkled movies to feast our eyes on during this season, and the current lineup of Christmas movies is just not enough.

It’s not giving plentiful or jolly, and we need more, but here are a few picks we could find that will just have to do for now.

A Naija Christmas

A Naija Christmas || Netflix
In our opinion, A Naija Christmas might just be the perfect example of what Nigerian Christmas movies should look like. It has the dramatic family plot covered, it had the love plot going on, let’s just say it had a lot going on for it. The Netflix film was released in 2021, and since then, we just haven’t seen any other Christmas movie that comes close in terms of plot and quality.

The film follows three brothers played by a very stellar cast, as they race against time and one another to bring home a woman, in order to fulfill their mother’s dramatic wishes. The main catch is, whoever gets a girl to marry, gets the family home.

Christmas in Miami

AY Makun movies are always a good laugh, and even though we’re focused on Nigerian Christmas vibes, this one is set outside the country and it features a lot of foreign actors. The Nigerian cast is epic still, from Richard Mofe-Damijo to Osita Iheme, the lineup makes the story worthwhile, and so does the plot.

The film has a reality TV vibe to it, it follows six different families from six different countries as they come together to live under one roof for a week in order to get a cash prize of one million dollars. You can be certain that the drama will be over the top and funny, in our opinion, that’s a perfect combo for Christmas

Best Christmas Ever

This lighthearted Christmas movie stars Maurice Sam, Sonia Uche, Chinenye Nnebe, and so on. If you’re looking for something funny but something that is still able to take you down memory lane on what Christmas in Nigeria is like, then this is the one. It is perfect to reinforce that Christmas spirit of family, love, culture,and fun moments. You can find this hilarious movie on Youtube.

Christmas Is Coming

Christmas is Coming || IMDb
Christmas is Coming is a romantic comedy type of Christmas movie, it starts off five days to Christmas as Henri falls in love with her boss after going through a series of unfortunate events courtesy of her roommates. It sees Ufuoma McDermott shining as the lead actor and the director. In this delightful comedy-drama, just expect to be treated to a whirlwind of laughter and heartfelt moments.

Merry Men: The Real Yoruba Demons and Merry Men 2

Merry Men
While we can all agree that Merry Men is not even remotely or exclusively focused on Christmas, these movies, directed by Toka McBaror, infuse humor, action, and camaraderie against the backdrop of celebrations. They offer a blend of entertainment and glimpses of the festive season amidst thrilling narratives, since beggars can’t be choosers, we’ll have to take what we get, on the bright side, it has a bit of a Christmas vibe going on.
